The Current Grading Dilemma
Traditional grading systems, with their reliance on letter grades and punitive marks for mistakes, have often been a source of stress and demotivation for students. They prioritize the destination (the final grade) over the journey (the learning process) and can inadvertently hinder the very essence of education—growth, exploration, and understanding.
Moreover, the ubiquitous "F" (Fail) grade, often associated with failure or incompetence, does little justice to the efforts students invest in their education. We recognize the need to shift our focus away from punishing sincere efforts and toward nurturing a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Introducing Our New Approach
Our new way of education performance review seeks to address these concerns head-on. We believe in fostering an environment where students are encouraged to take risks, make mistakes, and learn from them without the fear of failing. Here's what sets our approach apart:
Eliminating Punitive Grades for Effort: Under our new system, failing grades like "F" will only be assigned in cases of academic dishonesty or cheating. Genuine efforts will no longer be penalized.
Primary Criterion: Final Achievement: The primary measure of evaluation becomes the student's final accepted achievement. We shift the spotlight from past mistakes to what truly matters: what the student has learned and accomplished by the end of the learning journey.
Notation of Attempts: We maintain a notation of attempts—a record of the student's persistence and dedication to improvement over time. This provides a transparent view of the student's journey without directly affecting the final grade.
